Sunglasses Collection
The sudden change in the weather recently has got me all excited for the warmer times ahead. There is nothing better than the feeling of leaving the house without layers upon layers (even though I do love the layers) and feel the cosy warmth from the temperature not being in the minuses. One of the most exciting parts of the warmer months is dusting off the sunglasses collection……….. I mean I personally find it totally acceptable to wear said sunglasses in the depths of winter too; if it’s good enough for Elizabeth Taylor, it’s good enough for me LOL. Sunglasses are a great way to buy into a brand that you LOVE but cannot afford some of the heftier accessories they offer. TK Maxx is the perfect place to pick up amazingly priced designer sunglasses. In the past I found Tom Ford’s, Stella McCartney’s, Moschino’s, Givenchy’s and Gucci’s (to name a few) in my local TK Maxx. I love to have a good range of styles to pick from, be it colour, size, shape……… variety is the spice of life after all! They are a great way to really play around and have some fun while not feeling too self conscious if you’re not the most confident person. A bold, colourful pair of sunglasses can really add something extra to an all-black outfit and make the glasses pop even more against a blank canvas.
I have been a huge fan of sunglasses for a long time now, the first designer pair I bought for myself were Tom Ford Fonda’s in black from his first eyewear collection in 2006. Now, I have searched and SEARCHED for these glasses and for the life of me I cannot find them anywhere! It is not just the actual glasses that are missing, it is the case and also the box they came in……. and the box would have never have left the house. Sooo anyway these sunglasses were so beautiful at the time. They really aren’t my style anymore but I do still love them. I had the Fondas in the black option with gold metal and I used to think I was the BUSINESS when I’d wear them haha.
My all-time fave and most used pair of sunglasses have to be my Versace’s ……… I did originally want these in the tortoiseshell but they had sold out so I reluctantly went for them in black. I personally think black and gold go together faaaaaaar too perfectly, so I am more than happy with them. These are my go-to pair and I throw them on with pretty much anything. I managed to get these beauts from a friend I worked with who knew someone that had their own opticians. They were reduced by 50% so I only paid £90 for them which is an actual steal!
My most treasured (and most pricey) pair has to the iconic Moschino McDonalds beauties. I have never actually worn these sunglasses out and about, mainly because I love them soooo much and it took me 6 years to be able to find a preloved pair and if anything was to happen to them I could never forgive myself. Some would say that it is pointless having them if you aren’t going to wear them-but I am holding on until I have the perfect opportunity to show them off. These are also a part of my Moschino Autumn/Winter 2014 collection that I am slowly building up. This collection was the brand’s most iconic and, for me, the most sought after. I feel these glasses are the ultimate piece for any Moschino collector and are easily the crowning glory in my collection.
Another treasured pair would be these orange oversized Moschino sunglasses. I got these for my birthday in 2017 and I have to say these are one the most uncomfortable glasses I own. I LOVE the large golden Letters spelling out ‘MOSCHINO’ on the arms so I weather the pain in order to have the chance to wear them haha. I love the look and shape of this pair but I think because they are so heavy they just don’t sit too comfortably on my face. I would still LOVE this pair in the black as they look so dreamy so I always have a quick look through Vestairier Collective to see if anyone is selling a pair. These sunglasses, in black, featured on the 2015 Moschino Barbie so I definitely feel that they are an iconic pair to have.
Another pair I have never worn are the Kenzo for H&M’s. These were from the 2016 collaboration and were a steal at £29.99. I love everything about these glasses; the colour, the reflective lenses and the bold zig-zag arms and bridge design. These would be perfect for a fun holiday to Orlando where you can’t be outside without having to wear sunglasses and would clash a dream with amazing brightly coloured clothes.
The second pair of designer sunglasses I bought were a pair of RayBan Wayfarers. I got these for a trip to Las Vegas way back in 2012. I was torn between turquoise and these mushroom coloured frames. I actually surprised myself when I FINALLY went for the mushroom colour. They’re a pair of glasses I reach for when I can’t decide which to go for. I love the simplicity of this pair and even the colour, even though it isn’t usually one I’d go for. They have done me well on many a summer holiday and they do have some scars from the odd fall and crashes they have been in. These have to be the most simplistic pair I own. I don’t tend to go for simple, so along with the colour I am still shocked I ever went for this pair haha. Although I must say the colour goes with pretty much everything.
A pair that I kinda regret buying are these aluminium and gold RayBan Clubmasters. Don’t get me wrong I LOVE the look of the glasses but I like to be able to put a pair of sunglasses on my head when they aren’t needed and I like them to be easy to grab for when I do, but with them having nose arms they tend to get tangled in my hair and nothing puts me in a more rotten mood than my hair being pulled haha. I need to start wearing them more as they have been sat in the box ever since I bought them for a holiday to Los Angeles in 2014.
I do LOVE an inexpensive pair of sunglasses too. I love the feeling of not being too precious over a pair (Because I am VERY precious over everything haha) and don’t feel on edge when you just throw them into your bag while you are at work or if they aren’t needed while you’re out and about. I found a rectangular pair from New Look for £7.99 and they have been very popular already this year. They are pretty simplistic and don’t take up much room in a tiny bag.
A beautiful pair of sunglasses that I always forget I have are a turquoise round pair by Italia Independent. I managed to grab this pair from Net-a-Porter n the sale and they were reduced from £230 to £42……. well, I couldn’t have just left them haha. I bought this pair for a holiday to Orlando back in 2015 and the colour worked a damn treat with all of the bright pops of colour I had packed for the holiday. This brand did a collaboration with Jeremy Scott back in 2017 and I WISH I had managed to get my hands of a pair!!!
