Reebok x Jurassic Park
To say I have been eagerly awaiting a new Jurassic Park film would be an understatement. It seems a lifetime ago since we last had a new edition to the franchise, when in fact it has only four years haha. The last scene of the last film showed me what I’ve been wanting to see from a Jurassic Park/World film ever since I first saw the film…………. dinosaurs outside of a theme park environment causing AAAALL sorts of mischieve in our world. This has been something I have dreamed about since I was a kid. 10th June is the date that I have been waiting on……….. The release date of Jurassic World: Dominion! I made sure I managed to book tickets for the release day AAAAAAND the day after haha.
As a kid, I was obsessed with dinosaurs and the release of Jurassic Park in 1993 really was life-changing! I remember seeing the toys for the film in Fenwick in Newcastle. My mam let me pick one and went for the Tim Murphy action figure. I chose this one because I loved the baby Brachiosaurus and the fact it came with a cage you got to put it in was a little too much LOL. The packaging for these toys is something that will always stay with me. I can always remember seeing them in our shed which I always thought of as a little strange, maybe my parents were hoping to sell them for years to come to get some of the cash back they spent on them LOL! The packaging featured shadows of jungle foilage set against an ombre yellow/red background. I also remember each toy had a card you could cut out with an illustration of that character on it. I can never remember what happened to these cards but I would love to have a good look at them now. Christmas 1993 will always be one I will remember as I was lucky enough to have gotten EVERY piece from the collection, even an extra Tim Murphy as my parents forgot I already had him haha. When I found out that Reebok was doing a collection based on the OG film I was super excited! The trainers that caught my eye were the Instapump Furys. After googling these I discovered that the box they came in was pretty much an exact copy of the boxes the toys came in way back in 1993………. which made me want the trainer even more!
Inspired by the movie’s iconic guest tour vehicles, the Instapump Fury featured a leather lining mimicking the fabric of the Explorer’s seat coverings with battle damage graphics on the sole and sides of the shoe. The trainer was finished off with the Jurassic Park logo on the legendary pump ball. The Ford Explorer was one of my favourite toys back in the day so going for these trainers was a no-brainer. The print of the car is a dream mix of bright colours and animal print. One version of the Club C's took inspiration from Dr Alan Grant. Tan suede with a bandana print lining. Both sock liners were printed in a denim effect and the right sock liner featured the famous Velociraptor claw. The notorious Dennis Nedry made his mark on another pair of the classic Club Cs. These ones featured a floral print heel that was inspired by the shirt he wears at the start of the film, and a zebra-striped pony hair heel cap, which mimicked the screensaver of the lady in a zebra bikini which was on his computer screen. The tongue of the trainer was even made from a bright yellow rubber raincoat material in remembrance of Nedry’s failed attempt to escape from the island. Another version of the Club C 85 paid homage to the fun and knowledgable cartoon character, Mr DNA. The clear sole featured a Mr DNA strand on the left shoe and a mosquito graphic on the right. The trainer also had a cracked egg print on the collar and bubbled heel. The Pump Omni Zone II was inspired by a Dilophosaurus hatchling (one of my faves dinos). It featured a dinosaur graphic on the upper base material with hints of skived leather in the colours of the dinosaur’s frill.
I was lucky enough to find the Instapump Fury trainers on the END. website. As expected they had been reduced in the sale from £165 down to £70. Still not wanting to pay that much for them I played the waiting game and added them to my watchlist. I am happy to wait for as long as it takes to get a better bargain hahaha and this didn’t take too long, thankfully. As I was already signed up for the END. site And knew to expect an email offering 20% extra off sale items in the near future…………. and BOOOOOOM it came! with the 20% extra off the price, I managed to get the trainers for £56. The only thing was they had sold out in my size so I had to go for a size 8.5. Having just recently bought the Ghostbuster Instapump Fury I knew they were a large fit. One thing I find with this trainer is it is a bit of a tight squeeze to get your foot into the trainer but once it is in the shoe they are pretty darn comfortable. As I mentioned earlier the box for these trainers really helped sway my decision in buying these trainers. When I got the trainers delivered I noticed that the actual box was damaged and I was heart broken. I did get in touch with them but they would not help because they couldn’t prove when the damage happened. The other box that the trainer box was in was in perfect condition so I think the employee packing the delivery knew but just wanted shot of it. The trainer were in perfect condition so I quickly got over it LOL!
