Branded-mania
Ever since I fell in love with Tom Ford’s work for Gucci Group and John Galliano’s for Dior in the early 2000’s, I have been a massive fan of brands that go in on it with the branding. It shows a mix of bad taste and glamour (two things that go hand in hand in my opinion) and is the perfect way for brands to advertise. I know back in the day that some celebrities gave brands a bad name (Daniella Westbrooke head to toe in Burberry) but look at the brands now, it is on every celebrity and fashionista’s most wanted list. To me, it is the ultimate bad taste wearing matching branded items from the same company.
I wanted to play around with creating a few items with the blog name plastered over it. I decided to screen print a hoody, t-shirt, cap and tote bag. To me, these are exactly the kinds of merchandise I love and want to see on sale in theme parks and hotels; it takes me back to the good old days of the 1990s. I’ve been playing around with logos and branding for the blog and the one I printed was one of the first I came up with. I went for a bold font with smooth lines making it a touch more 1980s (which is right up my street). I loved the idea of the metallic gold and silver coloured inks for the tote, hoodie and cap. I went for these colours because I love gold, OBVIOUSLY, it stood out against the dark background AAAAAAAND it went really well with the jewellery I went for in the shoot.
I decided to do a fun shoot featuring the printed items, mixed with the Moschino style accessories from this season’s Moschino collection. I took inspiration from the Moschino Fall/Winter 2020 collection. This collection really hit me hard, I fell in love with it INSTANTLY! They played around with the size of the entire collection showcasing super-oversized puffer coats, jewellery, backpacks, caps and miniature bags with maximum effect! This collection, to me, sums up what fashion is about; playing around with the fit, silhouette, proportions, and prints.
The part of the collection that really held my attention was the jewellery. Now I live my life to the rule of “more is more and more is best”, so as they showed layers of jewellery…………….. I was living! Layered with the lashings of gold jewellery was one of the brand’s personal favourites of mine………… the mini quilted leather bags. Now I love these bags because they are so useless in terms of their size but so incredibly beautiful to look at. The straps can be adjusted to alter the length and this makes them easy to transform into a necklace!
