Bag Of My Dreams (Since 2015)
If anyone can remember Jeremy Scott’s second collection as Creative Director at Moschino, you will recall it was a Barbie themed extravaganza! Following the success of his first collection inspired by McDonald’s and fast food, Spring 2015 saw Mattel's iconic plastic toys given Scott's low-high treatment. I was ready to be WOWED…….. and boy was! For evening pieces in the second half of the show, it was as though the models were an actual Barbie Doll from the 1990s with oversized accessories, buttons and sequins. I am sure some of the outfits were based on real Barbie dolls from this era. One of the things that was so genius about this collection was the iPhone cases. There were designed like an accessory that would have come in the box for a fancy Barbie. The handheld mirror and pink phone were unreal, but the yellow camera was out of this world and wouldn’t have looked out of place on Disneyland tourist Barbie (which would actually be my dream Barbie) The first half of the show was a little more ready-to-wear but just as eye-catching, with a Barbie style bubble font being printed/knitted on EVERYTHING! I was knocked off my feet by the print: it was visually exciting and extremely wearable. I say wearable… you’d still have to be very brave in your fashion choice or a HUGE lover of Barbie to want to wear it LOL. They did two colourways of this print, pink and black. At the time I wasn’t desperate for the pink version, it was the black printed backpack I was after! They offered a few bag styles in both the pink and the black print; a clutch, a suitcase, a satchel style crossbody, a purse and the backpack. Why there wasn’t a bumbag I will NEVER know haha.
Every season I scour over the Moschino website looking for the item that makes me want to part with my hard-earned cash when the sales go live. This season was the black bubble font print backpack. I had made my mind up and I was going to get this bag……….. only I was on holiday in Orlando when the sale went live. I had turned off the data on my phone just so I wasn’t going to get a surprise phone bill at the end of the month and the wifi was really rubbish on my phone. I had realised the sales had gone live a few days too late. When I eventually realised the sale was on the bag had sold out! I was gutted! I used my friends iPad while on holiday searching for a site that still had the backpack in stock…….. and NOTHING! To say I didn’t let this eat away at me while I was on holiday would be a HUGE lie LOL. I was thinking as soon as I get home I can get online and have a proper search and find the bag……… but still nothing!
This bag has been on my wishlist ever since. I always joke that my life is full of regrets, regrets of things I didn’t buy haha. On my first trip to Las Vegas, I had found a dressing gown in Caesars Palace that was incredibly luxurious. It was white terry towelling with the gold embroidered Ancient Greek motif around the cuffs and edges of the entire dressing gown. I didn’t buy this because I never liked a dressing gown at the time but as soon as I got back home from my holiday I spent 2 weeks in hospital with a perforated appendix and a dressing gown would have been a godsend. Now to not buy this item once was bad enough but 2 years later I went back to Las Vegas and didn’t buy it the second time either LOL. This is one of my purchase regrets. Another one was a Disney coaster I had seen on my first day at Walt Disney World. It was one of my favourite attractions, The Enchanted Tiki Room. I had decided I would buy it the next time I came to the park just so it was one less thing to carry around with me. I never saw this coaster again and it was the only one I needed to complete the collection. This too was a purchase regret haha.
In the 6 years since I lost out on this backpack, I had found a few options on sites such as eBay but they were always a little too pricey or I was a little too wary of buying just in case it was a fake. When I say I would search the internet for this bag, I meant I searched HARD, like more than once a day so I wasn’t to miss out again. A few weeks ago I managed to find one on the old faithful Vestiaire Collective app. It was well priced at £200 but the only thing was it was located in Hong Kong. So I saved this bag to my wishlist and I would keep getting notifications saying it had been reduced by the seller. It eventually got reduced to £170 and I couldn’t take it anymore so I decided to snap it up! The postage worked out being £40 and the import charges £60. Now, this would usually put me off buying something as I am usually a nightmare if there are ANY delivery charges but I knew this was too good a chance to let go! I was very nervous about making this purchase as it was the most I had EVER spent on delivery for anything and obviously my sights were set really high for this backpack haha. The delivery of the bag took less than a week which included being posted from Hong Kong to the Vestiaire Hub to be authenticated and then forwarded to my address. I was super impressed with the speed of the delivery and the bag was FINALLY mine. I am such an impatient person for waiting on deliveries! The condition of the bag was listed as “used-good” but I would definitely have listed it as more “near-perfect”. The bag has definitely been looked after and the only imperfection I noticed was a little patch where the material had turned lighter, but this was on the underneath so it was no huge issue. One of the worse things about the material this bag is made from is that it starts to peel. I have the Super Mario Moschino backpack and it has happened to that bag. I have no idea what causes the fabric to do this but it does spoil the overall look. To avoid this happening to the Barbie-themed beauty I have made the decision to not use this bag for work and use it as a way to treat myself LOL……….. it is the little things in life after all LOL! This is the 4th Moschino backpack I have and the last time I purchased one was waaaaay back in 2016. A backpack used to be my go-to style of bag but a lot has changed since I used to use them………. mainly the type of bag I am comfortable using. A crossbody bag is way more useful when you are getting on and off two different buses and need to quickly get into your bag LOL. Saying this I still LOVE the bag and it will be a part of my collection for a long long time.
